Our Mission
To organise, facilitate, encourage, and promote walking and exercise in nature as a therapeutic mechanism towards achieving and maintaining a balanced body, soul, and mind.
Grand Risers Walking Group through The Early Risers’ Wellness Walk Project seeks to bring together people from black ethnic origin around the Northeast, specifically; County Durham, for a weekly walk and exercise activities in nature. We believe walking has benefit for both physical and mental health.
The Therapeutic Value of Walking
With a focus on outdoor and nature exploration, walking has many therapeutic benefits. Its is a low-impact form of exercise that can help improve cardiovascular health, increase muscle strength and flexibility, and reduce stress. It can also help improve sleep and boost mood. Walking can be especially beneficial for people who are recovering from an injury or surgery, or who have chronic conditions such as diabetes or heart disease. Many people have found walking as a tool in clearing their mind and can be a form of meditation. Overall, walking is a simple and effective way to improve both physical and mental health well-being.
Out in Nature
Head out into the forest listen to the crunch of fallen leaves under your feet and the rustle of branches in the breeze which creates a symphony of sound. Stare at the filters of the sun through the trees, casting a dappled pattern on the ground. Enjoy the cool breeze brushing your face, invigorating your senses. The world feels alive with endless possibility as you explore the trails and take in the beauty of nature at every turn.
