Early Risers Wellness Walk
The Early Risers’ Wellness Walk Project is a project that brings bring together people from black ethnic origin around the Northeast, specifically; County Durham, for a weekly walk and exercise activities in nature. We organise, facilitate, and engage in early morning walks as we believe this has health benefits in terms of mental, psychological, and physical health. The early risers’ wellness walks are conducted in open natural spaces such as Woodlands and Country Parks, and along National Coastal trails. There is provision for those who wish to take short walks and for those who wish to take longer treks. The aim of The early risers' wellness walk project is to encourage, empower, and support healthy lifestyle within people of black ethnicity as it would allow them to take up the advantage and healthy benefits of walking and exercising outdoor in nature and open spaces. Funded by The National Lottery Community Fund, the early risers’ wellness walk project would serve as a means for people from black ethnic community to engage in community-based group-led walking and exercise activities in nature. Individuals from black ethnicity are known to have a higher-than-average incidence of mortality from hypertension and stroke. The project will help raise awareness of the importance of a healthy lifestyle and more importantly, regular exercise as a means of preventing health conditions such as obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, and coronary heart disease.
